Giovanni Paolo Pannini is an Italian painter and architect, known for his works in the urban landscape genre - vedutes. As an artist, Panini is best known for his paintings of the sights of Rome, in which he paid great attention to its antiquity. His most famous works are sketches of the interior of the Pantheon and veduta with views of Rome. Much of his work, especially the landscapes of ruins, is whimsical according to the principles of the capriccio. He also painted portraits of contemporaries, including Benedict XIV. ½ in.
